For almost 40 years Youth Outreach formally known as Gold Coast Project for Homeless Youth Inc. has been supporting young people 16-25 years who are homeless or at risk of homelessness on the Gold Coast.
1984
The Gold Coast for Project for Homeless Youth (GCPHY) evolved from the concern of Gold Coast Citizens. This group was alarmed at the growing rate of homelessness on the Gold Coast. Real Estate businessman Max Christmas was the founding chairman.
1985
Students from St Kevin’s Catholic Primary School ran a fundraiser to raise money for the Project.
1987
McLaughlin House the first GCPHY house was located in Miami.
1998
Bannister House located at Scarborough & Queen St, Southport was funded by Jupiter's Casino Community Fund.
2003
Lawson House - Ashmore built by the Queensland State Government. McLaughlin House the first GCPHY House in Miami was relinguished to acquire Lawson House.
2011
Bannister House - Scarborough and Queen St, Southport, resumed by the Department of Transport and Main Roads for the new light rail system. New property in Southport purchased.
2011
Administration & the Cottage was the next addition with the purchase of the house in front of Bannister House.
2013
STAY (Supported Transitional Accommodation for Youth) Responding to a lack of secure and affordable accommodation - head leasing to provide tenancies.
2019
SPIN (Supporting People in Share Housing) Partnership with the Department of Housing and Community Housing Ltd.
2021
ECHO Project established. ECHO is a community capacity building project designed to involve many people in a young person’s journey from seeking assistance to establishing themselves within their own lives.
