Youth Homelessness Matters
Minister for Housing and Public Works and Minister for Youth
Samuel O'Connor MP
In partnership with Gold Coast Youth Service we came together to raise awareness and advocate to End Youth Homelessness.
The Youth Homelessness Matters Day, held at HOTA on Wednesday 15 April is a national day dedicated to raising awareness about the scale and impact of child and youth homelessness across Australia.
The event was a powerful reminder that youth homelessness is not a marginal issue—it affects thousands of young people every year.
Each year, more than 43,000 children and young people present alone to services seeking help, often navigating housing instability, trauma and uncertainty without family support. Youth Homelessness Matters Day highlights these realities while amplifying the voices of young people and the organisations working tirelessly alongside them.
The event reinforced the urgent need for coordinated action, early intervention and safe, stable housing solutions that give young people the chance to thrive.
Ending youth homelessness is possible—but only if we continue to raise awareness, advocate for change and invest in the futures of young people.
